LACRE (Latin American Conference on Residency Education) puede ser considerado como un foro para las Américas, orientado a quienes estén involucrados en el proceso de formación de residentes. El objetivo principal es ofrecer un espacio para compartir ideas, desafíos, innovaciones y experiencias en entrenamiento avanzado. El LACRE está dirigido a todos los interesados en los procesos de enseñanza, aprendizaje y evaluación de residentes en Latinoamérica.

Organizing Committee

Dra. Trinidad Hoyl (Chile), MD

Is professor of Geriatric Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (UC). She obtained her MD and was trained in Internal Medicine in this University (UC). Thereafter she completed a Geriatric Research Fellowship at UCLA, USA (GRECC, Sepulveda VAMC), and was certified by Conacem as Geriatrician. She has been member of the Internal Medicine Department since 1999, and member of the PGME Committee since 2004. From 2004- 2014 she was appointed as PGME Associate Director at the UC. Since 2014 Dr. Hoyl has been the PGME Director of the UC School of Medicine.

Dr. Hoyl received a diploma in Medical Education. Her area of interest is Residency Education.

Dr. Hoyl has been co-chair of the Latin American Conference on Residency Education- LACRE, 2013, 2015 & 2017.

Dr. Hoyl is currently leading the implementation of RCPSC International Accreditation standars and CanMEDS framework at the School of Medicine of the UC.

Dra. Linda Snell (Canadá), MD, MHPE, FRCPC, FACP

Professor of Medicine & Core Faculty, Centre for Medical Education, McGill University, and Senior Clinician Educator for CanMEDS at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Snell has served in numerous educational and clinical leadership roles at McGill, nationally and internationally. She has received teaching and education awards, and presented workshops and invited lectures across Canada and internationally.

Dr. Snell’s current interests include: developing advanced training for clinician-educators; teaching & assessing CanMEDS core competencies; leadership in medicine; & education scholarship.

Dr. Klaus Püschel Illanes (Chile), MD, MPH,MSc

Dr. Klaus Püschel is a Full Professor and Director of the Center of Medical Education at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He completed his medical residency program in Family Medicine and a fellowship in cancer prevention at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, USA. Before becoming Director of Center of Medical Education he was Director of the School of Medicine and chair of the Department of Family Medicine at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He holds a Master Degree in Public Health and Community Medicine from the University of Washington in Seattle and a Master Degree in Bioethics from the University of Leuven in Belgium. His research areas are community medicine, health advocacy and medical professionalism. He is currently leading a Latin American initiative for designing and validating a social accountability index for medical schools in the region.

Dr. Arnoldo Riquelme (Chile), MD, MHPE, MSc

Gastroenterologist, Masters in Medical Education (University of Dundee). Director of the Department of Health Sciences, member of the Centre for Medical Education and the Department of Gastroenterology, Faculty of Medicine, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Their areas of expertise are related to research in postgraduate medical education and innovation in teaching methods, assessment, educational environment measurements and development of questionnaires.

Dr. Marcio Gomes (Canadá), MD, PhD, MHPE candidate, FRCPC

Dr. Marcio Gomes is a pathologist, Head of thoracic pathology at The Ottawa Hospital, and an Associate Professor and Distinguished Teacher of the University of Ottawa.

Dr. Gomes is also a clinician educator of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC). His main areas of interest in medical education are competency-based education, workplace-based assessment, continuing professional development and interprofessional education. Dr. Gomes has developed many educational innovations and received several teaching and education awards, including the 2010 Award of Excellence and Innovation in Postgraduate Medical Education by the University of Ottawa, the 2014 Professional Association of Residents of Ontario (PARO) Clinical Teaching Award, and the Leadership in Education Award of the Canadian Association of Pathologists CAP-ACP in 2017. He is currently doing a Masters in Health Professions Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago supported by the 2017 RCPSC Robert Maudsley Fellowship for Studies in Medical Education.

Dr. Oscar Casiro (Canadá), MD, FRCPC

Is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Pediatrics and Scholar at the Center for Health Education Scholarship in the  Faculty of Medicine, University of British Columbia (UBC). After obtaining a medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, he completed training in Pediatrics and Neonatology at the University of Manitoba. Dr. Casiró has held positions of leadership and progressive responsibility in the field of medical education, including that of President of the Medical Council of Canada; and Founding Regional Associate Dean of the Vancouver Island Medical Program (UBC and the University of Victoria). He is currently Regional Director for Latin America at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, to promote academic alliances in order to improve postgraduate medical education in the region.

Ps. Marcela Grez B., PhD

Marcela Grez is a psychologist and currently works as Postgraduate Coordinator at the School of Medicine of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. She coordinates the international accreditation process of the PGME Office and specialty programs, developing proposals to incorporate the CanMEDS framework and supervising the compliance of national and international standards.

Marcela Grez completed her PhD studies at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen University, Germany, on the subject of mental health of university students. In addition, she is certified as a clinical psychologist and completed a certificate in hospital psychology.
